FAQ
List of School Bus Districts
1. Will my child have school bus transportation?
State law requires local school districts whose border is within 10 miles radius of the private school to provide transportation services to and from the private school. However, if a school district does not provide transportation for its own students, it will not provide any transportation to UAP students. For example, Riverview School District provides transportation for its seventh through twelfth grade students, but not for sixth grade. Therefore, Riverview will not transport any sixth graders to UAP even though it is transporting seventh and eighth graders. Download a list of school districts serving UAP at the end. 2. Which school districts provide busing? Allegheny Valley, Deer Lakes, Fox Chapel, Baldwin-Whitehall, East Allegheny, Hampton, North Allegheny, North transportation_list-v4.pdfHills, Penn Hills, Pine Richland, Pittsburgh Public, Plum, Gateway, McKeesport, Shaler Area, Wilkinsburg and Woodland Hills (some areas). Please see a link to the list at the end. 3. How long do local school districts take to arrange for my child’s transportation services? 2 -3 weeks. 4. Do I need to do anything to secure transportation for my child? In some cases, you do not have to do anything to receive school bus transportation. UAP will set up your children busing. However, some school districts require parents’ registration/application. Please see a link to the list of school districts and their requirements at the end. 5. When will I be notified of my child’s bus stop and time? Your school district will send a letter or postcard about one week prior to the start of school with the bus number, stop location and time. Unfortunately, some school districts do not notify the parents until two- or three-days prior. If you have not heard by the Wednesday before the first day of school, please call your school district Transportation Office to assist you. 6. What if our home address changes throughout the year? Please inform UAP admin office as soon as possible, and we will inform the school district. Some of the districts may take up to two weeks to make the change or to set up a new bus, so it is important to contact us as early as possible. 7. Will my preschooler (Pre-K) have bus transportation? No, school districts will only provide transportation for students in kindergarten and above, only if the child is five years old by Sept 1, 2024. 8. Will my kindergarten child have transportation? Yes, with three exceptions: North Allegheny, North Hills and Penn Trafford. Please contact each school district transportation office to inquire about any updates. 9. Do I need to meet the bus at the stop for my child? Only children in kindergarten need to have an adult meet the bus in order for the driver to allow the student off the bus. 10. My children used our local school district bus services last year, do I need to apply this year? Yes, school districts require applications every year. One application per child. 11. Why does my child need to walk so far to a bus stop? Can I do anything about it? State law says a fifth grader and younger can walk up to one mile to a bus stop, and a sixth grader and older can walk up to one and a half miles. You may call your school district and ask them to change your stop. Some districts have forms to be completed before they will make changes. These can be found on the school district’s website. 12. Who should I call if my child’s school district bus is late in the morning or late arriving home in the afternoon? Please call your school district transportation office and give them your child’s name and bus number to see where the bus is. If the problem keeps occurring, please report it to the school district’s transportation office. The first week of school the bus may be early or late until the driver has worked out the schedule and route. 13. What if my child left something on the bus? If an item was left on a school district bus, call the school bus company with the information and the article left on the bus as soon as possible 14. What if my child lives outside the 10 miles for busing? If you live outside the 10 miles radius, it’s the parent’s responsibility to transport the child to and from UAP. |
